Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure said the vandalism made him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
